Gateway Containers don’t just paint up and sell used shipping containers. For many years we have converted them to suit the needs of our customers. We have done all sorts of modifications over the years and as a result have developed a high level of expertise in shipping container conversions.
In this article we feature some of the best shipping container conversions we did in 2020. From these you will see that they can be made into everything, from offices to storage units and even mobile fridges or cafe kitchens. Perhaps you might get an idea of what you can do for your own conversion?
Why use experts to modify shipping containers?
Shipping containers are designed and built to be tough yet light for their primary purpose of transporting goods by land and sea all over the world. Their design focuses on being intact, with the four corners able to take great amounts of weight when stacked, and strong, lockable doors for security. Their roof is non-load bearing but integral to the overall structural strength of the container.
If you simply remove a wall you’ll run into difficulty as the structure is compromised. That’s why you need to reinforce the spaces you cut out, for example, even a window cut into a wall could make it less rigid.
In saying that, if the design for the container’s new future is a mobile unit, there’s no sense in over-reinforcing those gaps. This is where you need experts such as Gateway Containers. We know what is possible, we’ve had all sorts of whacky designs from customers, and we can make your vision become a reality without over- or under-engineering the final result.
Let’s now have a look at some of Gateway’s modified container projects!
10ft Modifications
10ft Double Side Open Doors Container
This 10ft container was modified with double side opening doors, an electrical package, a whirly bird and vents.
20ft Modifications
Six metre (20ft) containers are some of the most common conversions we do.
20ft Gas Storage Container
This 20ft modified container was equipped with custom double doors, an internal partition wall, a personal access door with a panic bar, custom door cut out, and four custom-cut openings.
20ft Weighbridge Station Container
This 20ft modified container was to be used as a weighbridge office container. The modified container includes hydraulic lift windows, PA Doors, a dividing wall, and vents.
20ft Single Phase Refrigerated Container
This 20ft refrigerated shipping container was modified to include an electrical package and a butcher’s door. The reefer works off of single phase power.
40ft Modifications
30ft Café Container
Due to space restrictions at our customers’ site, we shortened a 40ft container to 30ft. Designed to be used as an outdoor café, it was fitted with a personal access door, a lockable swing type serving hatch, and the main doors have been modified to open together as a single door.
40ft Golf Buggy Storage Container
These 2 x 40ft modified containers were used as golf buggy storage units. They consisted of seven roller doors on both 40ft shipping containers, and can easily fit seven buggies into each one.
40ft Black Office Container
These 4x40ft modified shipping containers were to be placed together to form a two-storey building used as a training room and an office. We added personal access doors, sliding windows and a full side cut out with reinforcement.
40ft Grey Office Container
This 40ft modification was to be used as a container office. We added sliding windows, an external personal access door, internal personal access door with internal partition wall, vinyl flooring, air conditioning and an electrical fit-out.
